Imphal, December 30 2014:
A day after the State Govt decided to hand over the case in connection with the discovery of human skulls and skeletons from Tombisana HS campus, the Manipur People's Party (MPP) has today questioned how far the CBI's probe would help in bringing justice.
Speaking to reporters today at its office here, party president L Sovakiran said that justice is elusive even if the service of the CBI is utilised.
He demanded that excavation work at the premises be immediately halted as other evidences are likely to be destroyed or damaged due to further excavation.
He pointed out that many people have disappeared involuntarily during the last many years in counter insurgency operations under the cover of AFSPA.
As such, there is strong suspicion that the skulls and skeletons that were discovered at Tombisana HS premises might have been that of those who disappeared involuntarily since the site is occupied by security forces for a certain period of time.
Therefore, the Govt should understand and feel the sentiments of the public and deliver justice, Sovakiran said.
The MPP also hailed the role of media in highlighting the matter.
