Imphal, April 29 2013:
Main-taining that Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the Home portfolio, must take moral responsibility in the involvement of State security personnel in drug trafficking, Manipur People's Party (MPP) has demanded his resignation.
It may be mentioned that 11 State security personnel including two officers were arrested with a huge quantity of drugs by police commandos from Pallel yesterday.
In a press conference held at the party office today, MPP President N Sobhakiran said that the incident has tarnished the image of the Police Department, which is under the control of the Home Minister.
Saying that involvement of security personnel in drug trafficking indicates administrative loophole, the MPP President said that the Deputy Chief Minister must resign from his post taking moral responsibility of the incident.
MPP Advisor O Joy while taking part at the press conference lauded the police commandos who had arrested 11 security personnel with huge quantity of drugs.
Surfacing of the cases of police involvement in drug and arm trafficking have proved that police are working at their own discretion and there is no administration in the State, he added.
Maintaining that common people have never heard of awarding punishment to the drug traffickers although many have been arrested with huge quantities of drugs in the past, O Joy questioned why the State Government is unable to give befitting punishments to these criminals.
