Tribal language and Literature Societies

No fund is earmarked for the promotion and development of tribal languages of the State at Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur and Board of Secondary Education Manipur, said Tribal Language and Literature Societies, Manipur Chairman Ragongming Gangmei.
He was speaking at the reception ceremony of three newly elected Zeliangrong MLAs at Ragailong today.
The programme was organised by Zeliangrong Development Organisation, Manipur.
Ragongming Gangmei said that getting approval of a tribal language from the Government takes lots of time and no fund is set aside for the promotion and development of tribal languages at COHSEM and BOSEM.
Informing that 10 tribal languages Hmar, Kom, Mao, Rongmei, Paite, Tangkhul, Thadou, Kuki, Vaiphei, Zou and Mizo are approved by the Government under Tribal Research Institute, Ragongming Gangmei said that languages like Liangmei, Poumai and Gangte are yet to be approved despite efforts being made in this regard for long.
Saying that only Rs 10 lakh has been sanctioned by the Government for publication of text books for the approved 10 tribal languages, he said that the amount is not enough for the said purpose.
More than Rs one lakh is needed for the publication of text books of a language, he added.
Volunteers of different Zeliangrong women bodies feted Home Minister Gaikhangam (Nungba A/C), MLAs Kikhambou (Tamei A/C) and Janghemlung Panmei (Tamenglong A/C) .
IPS, MCS and MPS Officers, ADC Members and Municipal Council representatives of Zeliangrong community were also felicitated in the programme.
A colourful cultural programme was also presented by different troupes in the programme.
