Imphal, March 22 2020:
Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen and Phungyar AC MLA K Leishiyo visited Chassad village yesterday and interacted with the villagers whose houses were set ablaze and are currently taking shelter in relief camps.
The Minister and the MLA provided a large quantity of relief materials including essential commodities and food items to the villagers numbering about 700.While interacting with the villagers, Nemcha Kipgen and Leishiyo pointed out that different communities have been living together in Manipur harmoniously since time immemorial.
There might be ill-feelings or discord among the fraternal communities from time to time but one should forgive each other, Nemcha and Leishiyo said.
They then appealed to all the villagers to forget all ugly incidents of the past and learn to live together with mutual respect for centuries to come.
Expressing serious concern on the health and hygiene of people taking shelter in the relief camps, Leishiyo urged all the inmates to take up all possible precautionary measures against COVID-19.Pointing out that prevention is the best means to save oneself from COVID-19, Leishiyo suggested that only a few representatives of those organisations who come with relief materials should be allowed within the relief camps.
One member of Chassad Village Authority urged the Government to open a permanent police outpost at Chassad and also to resolve the inter-village feud amicably and permanently, adding that there would be repercussions if the issue is not resolved permanently.
On the other hand, Kamjong villagers told the Minister and the MLA that they have been working hard to find a permanent settlement within the next couple of days after constituting a peace committee.
While lamenting that many CSOs which came to Chassad in the aftermath of the violent clash went back without visiting Kamjong, Kamjong villagers told Nemcha and Leishiyo that they felt elated when COCOMI representatives visited them after visiting Chassad.
