The 1st anniversary of first open heart surgery in Manipur was celebrated on November 18 at Hotel Classic Grande with Governor Dr Najma Heptulla as the chief guest.
It may be noted that the first open heart surgery was successfully performed in Manipur on November 18 last year at Sky Hospital under the supervision of Dr L Shyamkishore Singh, chairman and chief cardiologist, Sky Group of Hospitals.
So far, Sky Hospital has performed 33 heart surgeries and has tied up with the State Government to extend health care services by organising various health camps.
Governor Najma Heptulla said, "We have to expand our health services so that it is easily accessible for all the people especially those from rural areas." The Governor also suggested the concept of flying doctors service in far flung areas of the State and further said that the Union Health Minister JP Nadda has also assured to extent all possible assistance to execute the scheme.
'Once this scheme is materialised, the hardship faced by the people living in remote areas will be greatly ameliorated.
People will get access to medical care whenever required," the Governor said.
The programme was also attended by Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, Health Commissioner PK Singh and HOD, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, BLK Multi Speciality Hospital, Delhi Dr Ajay Kaul.
