TNL imposes shut down

The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNLhas enforced total shut down of Ukhrul town in condemnation and protest against the death of PA Chinaoshang, the truck driver whose body was recovered buried at Lhangnom village yesterday days after his abduction, our Ukhurl corres-pondent reports.
TNL president Weapon Zimik convened an emergency coordination meeting at around 9 am at his office chamber today to discuss the future course of action.
The meeting was attended by zonal chairmen of different Tangkhul bodies including the Tangkhul Headmen Association (TNWL) .
After the meeting, a total shut down of Ukhrul town was immediately enforced from 12 noon till 6 pm.
Vehicular activities, shops and other establishment remained closed during the total shut down.
The meeting also resolved to demand immediate arrest of those involved in the abduction and murder of the truck driver and extension of sufficient ex-gratia to the bereaved family by the State Government.
TNL as well as the bereaved family will not claim the body unitl the above stated demands are met by the State Government, the TNL president asserted.
Police had earlier arrested N Baite, s/o L Baite in connection with the abduction from a makeshift camp on March 3.His other accomplices, however, are still at large.
Talking to this correspondent over phone, Zathing, brother of Chinaoshang expressed doubt that the recovered body was his brother's as the it had completely decomposed.
Demanding forensic test for confirmation/identification, Zathing said clothes are not enough to indentify a person.
Until all the necessary procedure are carried out to establish the true identity of the body, the family cannot accept the body as PA Chinaoshang as of now, Zathing added.
TNL has further expressed disappointment with the State Law Enforcing agency and the Government for the delay and alleged negligence in rescuing the abducted truck driver.
