Imphal, April 29 2013:
The proscribed United Revolutionary Front (URF) Manipur has announced that it has started checking infrastructure and education system followed in all educational institutions of Manipur starting from primary level up to university level.
A press release issued by the outfit's information and publicity secretary AK Pibarel informed that a Special Task Force (STF) has already been set up under the aegis of the outfit's health and education secretary to undertake the task of checking educational institutions.
One primary objective of STF is to diminish impacts and influence of the education system based on alleged colonial policy among students of Manipur.
The STF's endeavour would also help in framing a separate education policy of Manipur.
The URF's new initiative would cover all educational institutions, both private and Government from primary to university level as well as private tuition and coaching centres.
Education Department, Board of Secondary Education Manipur as well as Council of Higher Education Manipur are also within the scope of the programme.
The first step of the programme is focused on private schools set up under the All Manipur Private Schools' Welfare Association (AMPSWA) and it incumbent and former functionaries.
It was unfortunate that some member schools of AMPSWA opposed the outfit's initiative.
If no change can be observed in the attitude and activities of AMPSWA, stringent actions would be initiated and their functionaries would be viewed as agents of the alien rule who are only interested in earning big money through commercialisation of education sector, said the outfit.
The outfit also appealed for cooperation and suggestion from all quarters related to education and working for an education policy.
Information on the programme can be shared through the URF's health and education secretary [email protected], it added.
