Consultative meeting on NEP held

State Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Society, State Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) Society, Higher and Technical Education, State Council for Education Research and Training, Adult Education, Directorate of Language Planning and Implementation, Board of Secondary Education, Manipur and Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur jointly conducted the second and the last State level Consultative Committee meeting on New Education Policy at SCERT office, Lamphel today.
Attending the programme as the chief guest, Education Minister M Okendro said that the Ministry of Human
Resource Development.
Government of India, has directed all the States to formulate a new education policy each to keep up with the changes in education sector.
Expressing disappointment that the National Education Policy was formulated based on the big cities of India, the Minister said a proposal to submit a common recommendation of all the North Eastern States for incorporation in the NEP had been discussed in the past.
He urged the select group of academicians, NGOs and organisations engaged in the formulation of the new State Education Policy to come up with suggestions for the NEP.
The last education policy was formulated in 1986.The State has undergone tremendous changes since then, the Education Minister said.
He expressed hope that the new education policy would bring a new development in the education sector.
The draft of the new education policy will be framed by the beginning of 2016, he added.
Higher and Technical Education, SCERT, Commissioner, P Vaiphei; Department of Education (S) Secretary and BOSEM, SPD, SSA and RMSA Chairman H Deleep Singh; retired Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University, Professor C Amuba and Adult Education and GAD Commissioner BB Sharma attended today's consultative meeting.
Group-wise technical session was later held as part of the meet.
