Poultry farms to wean from poppy fields

Two poultry farms have been constructed by 37 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) in Hollengjang and Tuijang villages of Samtal Salient, said a PRO IGAR (S) release while high-lighting that Hollengjang and Tuijang are one of the remote villages near the IndoMyanmar border with very poor social and economic index.
It is informed that due to almost nonexistent basic infrastructure and other means of employment, villagers of these areas had resorted to poppy cultivation.
In an endeavour to wean away villagers from poppy cultivation numerous socio-economic measures have been taken up by 37 Assam Rifles and construction of these poultry farms is one of them, the release maintained adding that complete infrastructure has been provided by the Battalion including shelter, chicks, poultry feed, vaccination and transportation from Imphal to these remote villages.
Conveying that the villagers have also been trained for professional poultry farming by Assam Rifles, the release said 50 chicks have been given to each poultry farm as a pioneer project.
