Senapati, March 31 2010: Assam belles swept the Miss Barak contest held late last night at the windswept hill town of Senapati district headquarters,60 km north of Imphal, walking away with the Miss Barak and Miss Barak First Runners-Up crowns as well as many of the subtitles.

Twenty-one year old Sangita Phukan of Jorhat walked into the hearts of the five-member jury to win the Miss Barak 2010 title at the glittering festival held at the Senapati Mini Stadium undeterred by the freak thunderstorms wreaking havoc in the state for the last few days.

The Miss Barak crown and title comes with a prize money of Rs 1 lakh.

An English graduate, Sangita aims to become an established author "to highlight the issues of northeast." Assames beauty who already has three books to her credit,is also participating in the forthcoming NE Famina Miss India.

Fellow Assamese belle, Himakshi Agarwal bagged the First Runners-Up title and a Rs 50000.The 19-year old resident of Guwahati is currently undergoing her graduation.

A part-time model, she wants to become a choreographer.

Himakshi also won the Miss Talented subtitle which comes with a gift hamper and prize money of Rs 5000 .

Manipur was not left behind in the pageant as the Second Runners-Up title and prize money of thirty thousand rupees went to 16-year old Shangrila Maisnam of Keishamthong Top Leirak in Imphal West District.

She also bagged the Miss Photogenic subtitle with a gift hamper and Rs 30000 .

Among the other contestants, the Miss Congeniality title went to Nungailun and Miss Perfect 10 subtitle to Thingyaiphi Marsho.

The Best Designer award went to Debekni.

In the last beauty contest,21 year old Miss Nothono Kraho of Chumukedima(Dimapur) was crowned the first Seven Sisters Miss Barak 2008 while her companion Miss Elileno Tsukru of Kohima walked away with first runner up title.But this time out of five Nagaland participants,only Lisano Obum won the Miss Catwalk subtitle.

Altogether 14 contestants from three states of the Northeast including six from Manipur, five Nagaland and three from Assam took part in the beauty pageant which was the culmination of the two-day mega event entitled "Seven Sisters Barak Festival 2010" under the theme "Peace Through Culture and Identity" and organized by the Youth hope Foundation, Senapati in collaboration with 59 Mountain Brigade stationed at Senapati.

Manipur Hill Areas Committee Chairman, Thangmilien Kipgen who is also the MLA of Kangpokpi Assembly Constituency was the chief guest of the pageant which went late into the wee hours and was attended by mostly army personnel.

GOC of 57 Mountain Division, Major General DS Hooda was also a special invitee of the function.
