Even as search operations are being carried out at the adjoining villages on the Imphal-Moreh route on NH-39 following the spurt in looting, at least four passenger vehicles were reportedly looted on this route today.
According to DGP, AA Siddiqui, combing operations along the Pallel-Moreh started from December 16 to check the spurt in incidences of looting in this highway.
The operation is conducted under the overall supervision of DIG Range II, V Zathang.
IRB personnel, Chandel district police and Thoubal police personnel have been roped in for the operation.
As part of the operation, security personnel cordon off villages located along the highway and the identities of the residents are verified, said DGP adding that the personnel are also on the look out for any suspicious weapons that may be used by the highwaymen.
Till date there has been no arrest of confiscation of arms.
The DGP said the operation will carry on for two more days.
However even as the operation was underway highwaymen looted four vehicles on this route today.
According to reports from the police, the incident took place at an area between Khongkhang and Lokchao under Tengnoupal police station at about 10 am.
The vehicles were on their way towards Imphal from Moreh and these included three Tata Sumos and one Maruti Van.
Meanwhile as part of the pilot project to better the relationship between the police and the public five Community Resource Centres will come up in five police stations across the state soon.
Each Centre will be under a prominent citizen.
The Centre is aimed at providing assistance to the police as well as the public.
