Imphal, May 25 2021:
The 7-year-old child from Imphal West who succumbed to COVID-19 today was the youngest of three siblings.
She was denied admission at hospitals before she was treated at JNIMS, where she breathed her last, claimed her father.
Her lifeless body has been cremated at the Covid crematorium at Minuthong.
Her father said his child was rushed to JNIMS Hospital at around 4 am and she succumbed to Covid at 5 am.
She had complained about stomach pain on May 23 and was taken to RIMS Hospital.
Pediatric doctor at the hospital measured her temperature and oxygen level normal and as such she was brought home.
After she developed difficulty in breathing yesterday night, the child was first rushed to a private hospital and then to another private hospital, but the hospitals denied her admission suspecting her to be a Covid case, claimed the father.
She was then rushed to JNIMS, where she succumbed battling Covid for over an hour, said the bereaved father.
While the child was three months old, she suffered from bronchitis, but fully recovered when she was 5.Notably, JNIMS had issued a statement today stating she was Covid positive without comorbidity.
Significantly, the child is the second minor to have succumbed to Covid in the State.
Earlier, a 5-year-old boy from Bishnupur district had died of Covid at Shija Hospital in April.
Meanwhile, the father said he has no idea where his daughter got the infection.
"There is none in the family who has tested positive for COVID-19.I do not know when and where she got the infection," he said.
Haribanta, however, said he is a recovered patient.
He had tested positive for Covid during the first wave in October last year.
He recovered from the disease at UNACCO Covid Care Centre.
