MoU for rural youth inked

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM) and 11 different Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) at Sangai Hall, Hotel Imphal, today.
The MoU signing event was attended by Chief Minister N Biren Singh and RD&PR Minister Th Biswajit Singh as the chief guest and president respectively while Additional Chief Secretary (RD & PR) MH Khan and State Mission Director MSRLM Yumnam Robita were also present as presidium members.
Hailing the MoU, Biren said that the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India announced the DDU-KGY on Antyodaya Diwas, September 25, 2014.The scheme aims to add diversity to the income of poor rural families and to provide career opportunities to the rural youth, particularly those between the age of 18 to 35 years, as more than 180 million of the country's youth live in rural areas.
The Chief Minister said that earlier he was worried about the security of the young people working outside the State.
But that concern has diminished now knowing that 11 reputed implementing agencies will train the youth in different trades and will provide job placement, the Chief Minister said.
The DDU-GKY projects are market linked and implemented in Public- Private- partnership (PPP) mode.
The involvement and partnership between civil society organisations, educational institutions, apex skill partners and regulating organisations ensure that the DDU-GKY can leverage the strengths of all and achieve transformation change.
Saying that it's a very good programme for the poor rural youth, the Chief Minister appealed to all to seize the opportunities provided by the project.
Talking about the project, the Chief Minister said that the Central Government has set a target of training 10,518 poor rural youth, covering all the districts of Manipur.
6 PIAs have started providing training to the youth in various trades.
The project is presently implemented in 21 States and Union Territories and 568 districts of the country and covers more than 330 trades from 82 industry sectors, he added.
On the other hand, Biswajit said that the programme is one of the largest missions of the Central Government which will definitely help in addressing the unemployment problem in the State as well as in eradicating poverty.
As a part of today's programme, the chief guest distributed certificates to some of the youth who had already undergone training in food and beverage sector and also got placement.
It may be mentioned that the 11 Project Implementing Agencies involved in signing the MoU today will train the State's youth in the field of health care, hospitality, documentation, apparel/garment sector, beauty and wellness, hair styling, tourism, retail sector, electrical sector apart from providing job placement as well.
