Imphal, June 15 2013 :
Women Action for Development (WAD) has expressed its gratefulness and obligation in bringing justice to the hapless U- Morok trader, who was allegedly gang-raped on 22nd March last year near Kakyai Primary School in Irom Meijrao, within a spell of eight months through speedy trial by the Court of Law.
This gang-rape case has created history for the quickest trial in delivering justice among all crimes against women cases by any law court in Manipur so far, Secretary of WAD Sobita Mangsatabam observed in a statement.
However, WAD is deeply shocked by the cases happening in the last 2 to 3 days where a 34 years old Lohiya was shot by her husband with his own license gun and a 45 years old woman was stabbed to death by her husband at Hatta Golabati yesterday at around 6 pm.
The crime graph for domestic violence and crimes against women in the state is still climbing, Sobita said.
Therefore, WAD appealed to the Chief Minister of Manipur and MLAs to take the issue seriously and discuss the rising crime against women in the ongoing 5th session of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly, the statement added.
