Indo-Myanmar BTU celebrates b'day

Indo-Myanmar Border Traders' Union (IMBTU) celebrated its 18th foundation day at Manipur Press Club here today.
The foundation day was observed by Commerce and Industries Minister K Govindas Konthoujam as Chief Guest and President of Indo-Myanmar Border Traders' Union W Nabakumar as President, while President of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, Prof Priyoranjan of Economics Department, Manipur University and Director of Commerce and Industries Ministry Tilangtinkhuma attended as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Commerce and Industries Minister K Govindas said that the State could not benefit much from the Indo-Myanmar Trade Agreement signed in 1995 and so the State Government has been urging the Centre to increase the volume of trade between the two countries.
New changes in Indo-Myanmar border trade would come up soon to boost the state's economy, he averred.
Prof Priyoranjan maintained that the State Government must formulate policies and programmes to enhance the Indo-Myanmar border trade with special focus on Moreh town.
