Dimapur, May 26 2014:
The new Nagaland chief minister T.R Zeliang expressed his desire that a platform like North East Region Economic Front is set up for the North East Region to tie-up economic developments.
He hoped that with Neiphiu Rio and the new government at the Centre the policies like Look East Policy will be activated.
T.R Zeliang also said he will work in close co-ordination with all the North Eastern states.
T R Zeliang has become the first Zeliangrong politician to become the chief minister in any state.
A former Zeliangrong student union leader, T.R Zeliang, 62 years old, won the first assembly election in 1982 as an Independent from Tening assembly constituency of Nagaland bordering Manipur.
He is a Graduate from Kohima Arts College.
He was a Rajya Sabha MP as recent as two years ago.
He contested from the NPF ticket and won the Peren assembly seat in the 2013 Nagaland assembly election.
With T.R Zeliang at the helm, the social and political equation between the states of Manipur, Nagaland and Assam is likely to be changed.
Many considered Neiphiu Rio a 'tough guy' and T.R Zeliang a 'milder fellow' as per the social media speculations.
Hailing from Zeliangrong community, T.R Zeliang is quite popular even in Manipur especially among the Zeliangrong community.
He takes the charge of the NPF Manipur State affairs.
No doubt, like his predecessor Neiphiu Rio, the new Nagaland chief minister (T.R Zeliang) too is a staunch advocate of the Naga political issue.
Minutes after his swearing-in ceremony, T.R Zeliang's first comment was on the Indo-Naga political issue.
He asserted that he is for the early Naga solution.
"I will work hard for the early settle of the protracted Indo-Naga issue," was what Zeliang said yesterday.
Another similarity of T.R Zeliang and Neiphiu Rio is that both dress well.
They are fashionable and are very articulate in English.
Both Rio and Zeliang are also the lovers of western music (country music) .
