Imphal, May 23 2021:
Police on Sunday took up the initiative of enforcing Covid relevant SOPs at street side vegetable markets in different parts of Imphal city and its surrounding areas during the brief curfew relaxation hours.
Earlier, police often picked up such vendors and made them pay fines for violating SOPs.
However, on Sunday, police helped the buyers and vendors in maintaining social distancing and using face masks in order to prevent transmission of the virus.
Unlike the first wave of the pandemic when easing of the prohibitory measures led to huge surge of people coming out to replenish stock of essential items, places where the vegetable street vendors were allowed to ply their ware had minimal presence of buyers.
Moreover, police team deployed in these places ensured that the vehicles and shoppers were not gathered at the same place site.
On the other hand, police collected Rs 44,200 as fine from 170 individuals for violating SOPs in different parts of the state on Sunday, according to a statement issued by Manipur police department nodal officer for Covid-19 IGP (ops) staff officer Rojit Irom.
