Imphal, December 01 2011:
Contrary to suggestion by the Prime Minister's Office that foundation stone for the National Institute of Technology (NIT) be laid at its proposed site at Langol, prevailing law and order situation in the State has reportedly resulted in the change of venue for the said formality.
According to an informed source, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will lay the NIT foundation stone inside the Kangla.
It is informed that the PMO initially turned down the Government of Manipur's proposal, citing law and order problem, that the foundation be laid at Kangla.
The PMO conveyed its view that the same could be carried out in a symbolic manner at Delhi itself, said the source while adding that the State Government however managed to convince the PMO that Kangla would be the safest option.
It is also believed that non-completion of the RIMS Road work might be another factor leading to the change of site for laying the foundation stone.
On the otherhand, following strong instruction from New Delhi that only the names of the Prime Minister and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi should be inscribed in the plaques to be used for inauguration of various projects/buildings, re-inscription work has been ordered.
Prior to the instruction, marble plaques were supposed to be used for the inauguration but from late afternoon today work has reportedly resumed on granite plaques instead.
The plaques have to be handed over to the SPG by tomorrow noon on security ground, maintained the source while adding that names of chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and three union Ministers had figured in the marble plaque of City Convention Centre.
