CEO issues security steps for repoll

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has directed the Central Paramilitary Force on duty for the repoll of the State Assembly election to be held on February 4 to deploy one personnel at the door of every polling station either in static or oscillating mode in order to observe the proceedings that are going on inside the polling station as per directives of the Supreme Court.
The measure has been initiated by the CEO on the backdrop of booth capturing and violent incidents which occurred during the elections held on January 28 last.
In this regard, necessary directives have been given to the District Election Officers of Chandel, Tamenglong, Senapati, Ukhrul and Churachandpur districts by the Joint Chief Electoral Officer.
The directive said that para-military forces must take control of the respective polling stations on the eve of the repoll day.
On the repoll day, they must be responsible for protecting the polling stations and regulating the entry of voters, it added.
The directive further said that para-military forces must also make proper identification of polling agents and frisking before their entry inside the polling station.
A Chetak helicopter has been kept ready for transportation of EVMs in emergency.
Meanwhile, a notification issued by Jiribam ADC, Y Iboyaima said that counting of votes for the State Assembly election with regard to Jiribam Sub- Division would be conducted in three tables from 8 am at Jiribam ADC complex on March 6. Counting for 40/1 to 40/12 polling stations would be conducted in Table No1, while Table No 2 and No 3 have been reserved for 40/13 to 40/25 and 40/26 to 40/36 respectively.
