Imphal, May 07 2018:
The Contract Labour Welfare Union has warned that they would launch intense agitation including hunger strike in case 47 contract labourers disengaged by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) are not re-engaged within 10 days.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Contract Labour Welfare Union president P Kumarjit said that 451 people have been working for NHPC as contract staff for the past 10 years or so.
Out of the 451 contract staff, 47 were suddenly disengaged on April 20 this year and NHPC has not been assigning any task to them since then.
Even as fellow contract staff staged agitation against the disengagement, NHPC management did not pay any heed, Kumarjit decried.
Saying that they would be constrained to launch intense modes of agitation if the 47 disengaged staff are not re-engaged within 10 days, Kumarjit appealed to all civil society organisations of the State to support them in their fight against NHPC.
