Woman gang-raped, four accused arrested

Imphal, March 24 2012:
Four persons have been arrested by the police including two personnel of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) for raping a woman at Keinou Awang Leikai under Bishnupur district on March 22 .
According to the police, 42-year *********** was coming in a Shaktiman truck along with her brother-in-law Sangthairung from their village L.Khunou Khoupum of Tamenglong district when they were intercepted by occupants of a car at around 2 am on March 22 at Keinou Awang Leikai.
The occupants of the car (a Santro), four of them, then beat up the man and took turn in raping the woman after taking her at a secluded spot.
The culprits also allegedly robbed her of Rs 6500 and 40 kg of Chillies.
The following morning, the victims lodged a complaint with the police and in the afternoon of the same day the police arrested the four culprits.
The culprits who are in police custody have been identified as L Rojit (28) of Porompat, Ch Ibomcha (37) of Thongju Boroi Makhong and Ksh Kennedy (37) of Kongpal and S Bijen (34) of Uripok.
The last two are said to be IRB personnel.
They have been arrested from Sangaipat Sericulture Complex by the Bishnupur police.
A country made pistol along with a magazine was recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile, Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) and All Zeliangrong Students' Union have condemned the act of raping the defenceless woman as a crime against humanity.
