Imphal, May 23 2021:
Manipur University (MU) Unit Council, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) secretary general Moirangthem Boby has requested the MU Vice Chancellor in writing for ensuring conduct of Covid-19 test of all hostellers staying in the varsity.
According to the letter submitted to the VC, if the MU authority wants all hostellers to return to their homes, all of them need to be put under quarantine for 10-15 days and the authority should also ensure the students are tested for Covid-19 .
If the students were to return home without undergoing any test, they could spread the virus in their respective localities.
The students' body further urged the authority to make some kind of arrangements to drop the students to their homes, considering no transportation is available at the moment due to the lockdown/cur-few.
However, research scholars, who need to do research in the laboratory or stay at the varsity for their academic projects, should be exempted and allowed to remain.
Appealing to the MU authority to review its decision, DESAM urged for making a decision with proper consultation of student representatives, Dean and HODs,instead of making the same ill-advised decision again and again which would cause mental harassment to the students.
The alliance also urged against making any decisions which could disturb the minds of the students, while further urging the authority to consider the plight of students hailing from far-flung areas and making necessary arrangements.
It then appealed to the MU authority to ensure strict adherence of Covid-19 SOP in the campus and to take appropriate action against those not following the protocols.
