Manipur Fisheries Cooperative Union suspends agitation

Manipur Fisheries Cooperative Union suspended the agitations for the time being which was supposed to start from today as the Government assured to fulfil their demands.
Speaking to media persons, M Tombi, president of the union stated that a memorandum was submitted to Chief Minister N Biren Singh on April 12 demanding for the release of Rs 129 Crore issued by the Central Government through National Cooperative Development Council to take up many developmental projects for the farmers of Manipur.
It was mentioned in the memorandum that the union will resort to democratic forms of agitations if the amount is not released by May 2 however the union has decided to suspend the agitation for the time being as the Chief Minister and Fisheries Minister S Rajen gave assurance that it will be released at the earliest during a meeting held with the union and also in view of the grim situation of COVID-19 pandemic, he added.
He further urged the Government to hold a Cabinet meeting soon and take resolution to release the package as it will lapse on July 31 for the welfare of the farmers of the State.
