Key roles and responsibilities of PLVs stressed

Imphal, June 27 2019:
A one day interaction programme with the co-ordinators of legal aid clinic of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Churachandpur and Chandel districts was held at the conference hall of ADR building, Lamphel Court Complex Imphal.
A press release issued by Deputy Member Secretary Manipur State Legal Services Authority stated that the interaction programme was presided by Justice Kh Nobin Singh, Judge, High Court of Manipur as well as Executive Chairman of MASLSA.
Member Secretary, MASLSA G Gaiphulshillu, Secretary, Imphal West DLSA K Nirojit and Deputy Member Secretary, MASLSA S Sadananda were also present in the programme.
Justice Kh Nobin Singh, Executive Chairman, MASLSA highlighted the key roles and responsibilities of co-ordinators and PLVs of each legal aid clinics in rendering legal aid and assistance to the vulnerable, marginalized and BPL people.
Nobin further stated that PLVs should have basic knowledge and functioning of the laws applicable at the grassroots level with reference to their day to day life and the functioning of police, Social Welfare Department, women and child department etc in dealing with different welfare schemes of Central and State Governments.
He conveyed that there are more than 100 Government welfare schemes available in the State.
However, the intended beneficiaries face various hurdles in availing those schemes such as old age pension, window pension etc.
G Gaiphulshillu stated that PLVs should act as intermediaries in bridging the gap between common people and legal services institutions and also in removing impediments in accessing to justice.
