Imphal, May 26 2014:
The wild allegation made by KNLF Secretary Tonglenlal alias Lalmoi and published in some local daily on May 25 appeared to be childish and ridiculous, the UKLF alleged in a press statement today.
The statement signed by its Information & Publicity Secretary JM.
Thadou recalled that the UKLF never forced anybody to oppose the propose setting up of KNLF surrender group camp at Semol, but it was done by the public on their own and in their larger interest since such arrangements would be a source of conflict and disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the area.
It further said, 'The standpoint of the public was for peace and harmony and we (UKLF) had to support it since we have signed peace pact with the govt in 2008 .
The wishes of the public and the UKLF are that no more new camps be set up in the area.
This is not particularly of the KNLF but of any new camp for any group.
Any new group coming to peace terms with the govt should be attached/housed with the umbrella organization and no more new camp should be established, was our central point' .
The govt must take this seriously if real peace is in its agenda, but now the role of the govt is the other way round, it charged.
Saying that Chandel district particularly Khengjoi sub-division had been a battle field for a good number of years in the past and the suffering of the people was extremely high, the statement stated, 'We don't want the same thing to happen again' .
KNLF is now under the Umbrella of KNO and they should be located in one of KNO designated peace camp, reasoned the statement, adding that if the wishes of new group to have their own new camp are granted, the process will continue and a day will come when the numerous armed groups will quarrel for their chosen camps and peace camps shall be turned into hostility camps.
It further reminded that in many of the last Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) meetings too, the government has given the assurance that no more new camp would be set up, but now the govt is going against its previous decision.
Pointing to the government that the ongoing fierce paper war between the UKLF and KNLF is the creation of the govt under its 'divide and rule policy' inherited from the colonial British, it asserted that this is not the right time to call press conferences and give out press statements of one's own wishes but a time to ponder for the peace and harmony of the area.
