Imphal, September 18 2018:
Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) president Hijam Priyokumar has conveyed that the alarming issues of dugs, alcohol and other substance abuse among the people, especially the youth, can be effectively and successfully prevented if leaders of the State, Government authorities, Departments concerned, organisations and the public join hands and fight the problem sincerely and with honesty.
He was speaking at the 12th foundation day of CADA at its head office in Pureiromba Khongnangkhong today.
Priyokumar conveyed his gratitude to the public, local clubs and different organisations for extending their support in CADA's tireless movement against drug abuse and alcohol under its motto "Health for Future".
He alleged that the liquidation of different factories in the State is due to the failure of the State Government to genuinely work in promoting the said factories.
Similarly the project of exporting local made liquor is likely to fail, he said.
If the project fails, the public will face more hardship and grievances than before and the people are more likely to indulge in alcoholism as a result.
Meanwhile, UCM president Sunil Karam stated that the problem of drug abuse and alcohol has not been rooted out completely despite the tireless efforts and campaigns/movements by CADA and other similar organisations.
He said that the State Government along with organisations like CADA and parents should join forces to fight the problem.
He added that the fight to stop drug abuse and the opportunity of such problem arising goes around in circle as organisations concerned are here fighting substance and drug abuse while a variety of drugs are being brought into the State from Moreh.
Regarding the Govt's decision to legalise liquor and export it to other States, Sunil said that it would be wise on the part of the Govt to discuss the matter with the public, entrepreneurs, liquor brewers as the problem pose great risk for the public more than benefits.
Convenor, Production and Preservation Committee, Nongthombam Bimol, president Indigenous Minorities Organisation Manipur (IMOM), Medun Maring and Anti Social Prevention Organisation, Md Nasir Ahmed attended the function as presidium members.
