Students demand resignation of education minister

Four student organisations today demanded resignation of education minister on moral ground for his inability to make available text books even as the academic session had already started.
Speaking at a joint press conference, leaders of the AMSU, MSF, DESAM and KSA alleged that officials of the education department implementing the SSA scheme has failed to discharge their duties as they could not distribute text books to the students under the scheme.
Even as the academic session of the current year had already started, authorities of the SSA and Board of Secondary Education Manipur could not ensure availability of text books to the students.
Education minister should bear the responsibility of the mistake committed by the officials and must resign on moral ground, they demanded.
They also set a May 15 deadline to ensure availability of text books to the students and announced that if the authorities fail to meet the deadlines offices of the BSEM and SSA.
