Cachar joins Statewide Khongjom Day observation

Imphal, April 23 2018:
The Khongjom Day Observation Committee, Udharbond organised Khongjom Day at Udharbond Community Hall, Udharbond in Cachar today followed by a mass rally in which hundreds of people across the area gathered.
Distinguished persons along with people from various section and representatives of CSOs, students' wings and women's wings paid floral tributes to the statue of Major General Paona Brajabashi located at Pangram, Silchar Airport road in Udharbond.
Former Assam Minister Ajit Singh and H Dhaneshwar Singh, chairman of the event graced the event as chief guest and president respectively while Prof Okram Churamani Singh, renowed social activist and a former principal of GC College, Silchar, Nilotpal Choudhury, Editor, Manipur Chronicle and Executive Director of Sangkha Group of publications Pvt Ltd, Taimur Raja Choudhury, Editor of Dainik Samayik Prasanga, a Silchar based Bengali dailies, Kh Anita Devi, HoD in Manipuri, Jagannath Singh College, Udharbond, K Gouramani Singh, social worker and A Lily Devi, president of the Assam Manipuri Meira Paibi Apunba Lup also attended as guest of honours.
Speaking in the event, Manipur Chronicle Editor Nilotpal Choudhury urged the Manipuri educationists to publish more books including history of Manipur (like Khongjom war), in various Indian languages besides Manipuri.
Prof Churamani, in his speech, urged the Manipuris residing in Assam to unite so that the society can work for the betterment of their own community.
The event was concluded with a Thang-Ta show and other cultural extravaganza.
