Death anniversary

Thoubal, January 09 2018:
The 184th death anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh, who fought valiantly to attain independence from the marauding Awas (Burmese) and ended the 'Seven years of devastation', was observed today.
The observation was organised by Human Rights Organisation in association with Peace and Freedom Academy, Thoubal at its auditorium today.
Manipur Human Rights Commission former member, Advocate Ngangbam Nongyai and Peace and Freedom Academy, Thoubal managing director Soibam Bishorjit attended the function as chief guest and president respectively.
The dignitaries along with students who took part in the observation paid floral tributes to the photo of Maharaja Gambhir Singh.
Speaking at the event as a resource person, social activist, Dr N Sanaton talked about Gambhir Shingh's reign and the reason behind the observation of
his death anniversary.
He further stressed on the role played by the king to end the seven years devastation brought by Awas.
