Imphal, May 26 2014:
Denouncing what the Media Advisor of RIMS Laithangbam Iboyaima told a group of reporters at RIMS, Editors' Guild, Manipur has decided to boycott any news pertaining to the Institute.
A release of the Editors' Guild Manipur said today that it takes the matter seriously as the rude words of the Media Advisor belittled those working in media houses of Manipur.
It is unfortunate for a media person like Laithangbam Iboyaima who is also working as Imphal correspondent of a National paper to look down upon the media persons of the state, A.Mubi, President of Editors' Guild lamented, adding that the organisation would boycott all news pertaining to RIMS until the Media Advisor apologises for the same.
It also urged the RIMS authority to remove Laithangbam Iboyaima from the post of Media Advisor and appoint a new one.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has also decided to stop publication of any news related to RIMS with immediate effect until the medical institute's media advisor Leithangbam Iboyaima is removed from his post by the concerned authority.
Announcing the decision taken by AMWJU at a press conference at Manipur Press Club here, union president Wangkhemcha Shyamjai said RIMS media advisor Iboyaima reprimanded a Poknapham journalist when he went to RIMS to cover a protest by the hospital's nurses wearing black badges on Monday.
He said Iboyaima chided journalist Ibomcha Yumnamcha at the protest site, saying that "amateurish journalists" were responsible for the strike by the nurses' association of RIMS because they filed wrong reports for publication.
The remarks by Iboyaima, a former vice-president of AMWJU, have shown total disrespect to the media fraternity of the State, Shyamjai said and demanded he be sacked by the RIMS authority.
Taking serious note of the incident, an emergency meeting of AMWJU was held today and decided to stop publication of any news item on development activities of RIMS with immediate effect until Iboyaima is removed from his office, he informed.
