Imphal, February 19 2018:
Thadou Students' Association on Saturday submitted a letter to Chief Minister N Biren Singh calling immediate intervention in the ongoing construction of a mini-dam by the Myanmar at Tuidimjang village near Khangtung village, Khengjoy Sub-Division, Chandel district.
The mini dam being constructed on the Myanmar side of the border will inundate the entire Khangtung village, said TSA in its letter to the Chief Minister.
Khangtung village with 48 households is located 30 kms south of Moreh.
The ongoing construction has already affected the villagers to a great extent, TSA said.
The village is currently facing scarcity of drinking water as a result of the construction.
Upon completion, the village will become inhabitable and all the people have to face relocation, said TSA.
The project will have adverse social, economic and cultural impact on all the Indian villages near the border, TSA added.
The Chief Minister had earlier assured the TSA that the matter will be raised with the concerned Myanmar authorities.
