COHR observes International Human Rights Day

Imphal, December 10 2013:
As in other parts of the world, Committee on Human Rights (COHR) observed International Human Rights Day today at Manipur Press Club with Khaidem Mani, president of All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA); Phulindra Konsam, convenor of COHR and Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, president of AMWJU attending as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Mani stated that the International Human Rights Day is being observed by around 60 countries throughout the globe since 1945 to show solidarity to the cause of human rights.
He further said there have been many movements in the State demanding repeal of the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 (AFSPA) as crimes and atrocities are being carried out under the immunity granted under AFSPA and pointed out that AFSPA should be lifted from the State as the Act is not wanted by the people.
Wangkhemcha Shyamjai asserted that abolition of Human Rights Commission in the State has sidelined serious violation of the rights perpetrated to the people of the State.
He also underlined the need for having a good governance in the State.
