Imphal, April 23 2018:
A one day workshop on empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions in Manipur was organised at Congress Bhawan today by Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (RGPRS), Manipur unit under the aegis of Manipur , Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
MPCC vice president, MLA Nameirakpam Loken, MPCC Minority Department chairman, MLA Md Fajur Rahim, RGPRS National convenor, Subhramitra Gogoi and Indian Youth Congress National secretary, Sarifa Rehaman attended the event as the chief guest, president and special guests.
Speaking at the event, MLA N Loken bashed the present BJP State Government claiming that it speaks and barks more than it performs.
He also asked how a Government, which announces/introduces new package indiscriminately without thinking twice about future consequences and which has also led to overdraft of crores of rupees apart from failing to pay the salaries of numerous employees, will bring development in the State.
Questioning whether the Chief Minister can announce packages as he likes, he added that it is the duty of the State Assembly to pass the annual budget after minute analysis and calculation of the budget for every sector.
Loken further said that the Congress party decided to remain silent when the new Government was new, but the situation has become such that the Congress has decided to speak up as the new Government is becoming all talk and no action.
Claiming that the new State Government is constantly blaming the past Government and beginning to launch investigation into various scam, so as to hide its numerous mistakes, Loken said that if the Government really wants to eradicate corruption, steps should be taken up from the grassroots level.
MNREGS is one of the flagship programmes introduced during the time of the UPA Government, and people were employed for 70-80 days in other States and for around 40-50 days in Manipur during those days.
However, with the coming of the NDA Govt at the Centre and the BJP Govt in the State, the people are getting employed for only about 10-12 days, Loken claimed.
He conveyed that the 'new' programmes announced by Narendra Modi are not at all new as the programmes conceived by the UPA Govt are being rebranded and announced as new programmes, he added.
Urging the people to study the situation properly, Loken claimed that BJP is slowly losing its power in the country.
BJP will fall from power in the 2019 election.
Whether Congress comes to power or not is another issue entirely but it will be over for BJP, he added.
