UNC, ANSAM slam Govt over Chandong dam water ingress

After the Mapithel dam started blocking water since January last the Chadong villagers have been living in panic and some of the houses had ready been submerged in water.
But the government has not made any alternative arrangement for the villagers.
Some of the families started leaving the village on Monday to settle in the nearby villages but still most of the villagers refused to leave their house even though water level kept increasing up to their courtyard.
All the roads, electricity and supply of other essential commodities were affected by the water and only two canoes and some bamboo rafts are used by the villagers for their transportation.
Meanwhile, a team of Naga leaders led by United Naga Council (UNC) president Gaidon Kamei, ANSAM President Seth Shatshang, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) President Weapon Zimik and Naga women Union (NWU) and others visited Chadong village and interacted with the villagers.

Speaking to the media persons at Chadong village, Gaidon Kamei alleged that this inhuman act Manipur of Government show that ot is communal.
Gaidon drew the attention to the government of India into the matter.
He promised that Naga civil societies will not remain as silent spectators and appropriate action will be taken against the state government.
UNC has planned to submit memorandum to the Prime Minister of India and sought Manipur governor intervention into the matter.
Gaidon alleged that the government did not provide any food and medicine to the affected villagers.
Instead they are shutting down all related roads and electricity including commodities.
ANSAM President Seth Shatshang said that they have been protesting many time against the government on the matter and state government did not hear their voice .Instead they evicted the villagers by the using water.
He said the indigenous people will not fight for the natural resources but will ready to fight against the state government.
He said the Naga people are ready to launch agitation against the government.
The villagers have been transporting on canoes and rafts but the government did not given any assistance to transport their things.
All Manipur Loktak Lake Fishermen Union Manipur also visited the site and interacted the villagers and taught the villagers how to live in the water and using of canoes for fishing in the water.
