Imphal, May 23 2021:
Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has demanded the government to fix and regulate prices of essential items required in treatment of Covid-19 patients at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons at its office on Sunday, MSF general secretary Hijam Roshan noted that Covid patients are facing lots of troubles in getting admission to hospitals for treatment due to surge in Covid-19 positivity and fatality rate in the state.
The government should fix the price of items required in treatment of Covid-19 patients including Covid testing (RT-PCR), treatment cost, medicine and medical oxygen.
The price of these items should be regulated for the welfare of the people, he added.
According to daily information shared by IDPS status update on Covid-19, the total Covid-19 test done in government hospital is 3,00,490 while the test done in private hospital is 6,78,880, Roshan pointed out, while demanding the government to keep more RT-PCR testing equipment in hospitals at cheaper rate for the poor people.
It is unfortunate that private hospitals are taking money from people at whatever rate they want for Covid testing, he denounced, while asserting that it is not the time for indulging in selfish business activities.
Andhra Pradesh CM had announced actions against hospitals that over-charged the patients, Roshan recalled, while adding that the government filed case against six private hospitals for excessive levying of treatment/medication fee on May 7.Moreover, government employees and VIPs rushing to private hospitals for treatment signify that the infrastructure in government hospital is not compatible, he contended.
Roshan further demanded the government to develop the infrastructure of government hospitals.
