Imphal, February 19 2018:
Noting the imperative role of Zilla Parishad Members, Pradhans and Members of Gram Panchayats in bringing development in their respective areas, Revenue Minister Karam Shyam stated that it is the bounden duty of every MLA and Minister to work dedicatedly as per the aspirations of the people.
Addressing the inauguration of a Block Development Office at Hiyanthang Keithel, Imphal West district today, Karam Shyam who also holds the portfolio of CAF&PD asserted that the BDO which was earlier merged with Wangoi BDO would benefit the people of Langthabal and Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly Constituencies.
He observed that with the inauguration of the office, there is a need to change the perception of the people residing in the areas covered by it.
The Minister expressed displeasure over the minimal participation of people's representatives from the two Assembly Constituencies.
There are four Zilla Parishad Members, 10 Pradhans and 90 Members of Gram Panchayats under Hiyangthang BDO.
The less participation of representatives of Panchjayati Raj institutions under the assembly constituency in the inauguration is not a good sign, he remarked.
He drew the attention of the concerned BDO to look into the complaints from certain sections that fund for material component of MGNREGS works is being deducted.
He urged the concerned BDO to maintain transparency and accountability in utilising funds sanctioned for implementing development works.
The Minister also appealed to Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC MLA Soibam Subhaschandra to take up the initiative for holding a joint meeting for Zilla Parishad Members, Pradhans and Members of Gram Panchayats four times in a year at the BDO office to discuss development works.
He gave an assurance that shortage of infrastructure and manpower at the BDO will be addressed.
Today's inauguration function was also attended by MLA Soibam Subhaschandra; former Rajya Sabha MP Wahengbam Angou and representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions.
