Imphal, April 29 2013:
With seizure of illegal drug consignment from the possession of a Manipur Police Commando team coming to light while they were trying to smuggle out into Moreh yesterday, All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA); Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM) and ACOAM-LUP, Kangleipak have questioned the credibility of security forces particularly the State Police personnel.
In a statement, AMADA maintained that involvement of some legislators and high level government officials in major drug scandals are giving hindrance in taking up adequate actions against drug smugglers.
In recent times, the number of drug cases where police personnel were found involved has increased.
If government failed to act sincerely towards curb the problem of drug in Manipur, a civil "anti drug war" might broke out in the state and government should be responsible for it, AMADA warned.
PLMPAM observed that such anti-social incidents are occurred due to dominance of corruption in police recruitment.
Involvement of police commandoes in drug smuggling has worsened the seemingly lost trust and credibility of the people towards the police department.
It also demanded befitting punishment of the accused police commandos.
Thanking the team of Thoubal Police Commandos who succeeded in detecting illegal Pseudoephedrine drug, ACOAM-Lup has urged the state government to frame a policy/programme for putting the curtain down on illegal drug market in Manipur.
