Imphal, May 26 2015 :
National Hawkers' Federation Manipur on Tuesday joined the rest of the world in observing the International Hawkers Day 2015 .
The function was held at Rupmahal Theatre, BT Road.
Manipur Board and Council Class X and XII exams 2015 successful students from the families of street vendors were also felicitated and presented with gifts to mark the occasion.
Representatives of several women organizations including that of street vendors attended the function.
Dr Chinglen Maisnam was also among the dignitaries present at the event.
In his speech, Dr Chinglen, Assistant Professor of Manipur University stated that now a lot of capitalists are waiting their turn to storm the Manipur market to gulp down the business of women vendors.
He said the historic three Ima Keithels will turn into shopping malls once investors start stepping into these markets after train reaches the State.
"We cannot deny this palpable fact.
We should not assume that arrival of train in Manipur will mean development for the State because we can see what is happening in the State of Bihar where train has been introduced a very long time back," Dr Chinglen pointed out.
He said that the destiny of Bihar is nothing but to increase the number of coolies and that likewise Manipur will also face the same fate when train arrives in the State.
"One different thing we can see is that there are only male coolies in Bihar.
But Manipur is sure to have its female coolies since the number of male population in Manipur is fewer," he observed.
