Imphal, February 23 2021:
Minister for Water Resources Letpao Haokip and MLA Kh Joykisan jointly inspected the improvement of Pemikhong drainage system from Khurai Konsam Leikai to Porompat Thawanthaba Leikai today.
They inspected the portions of the project at Porompat DC road area along with the top officials of the WR Department.
This particular project comes under the Division No I, Flood Control and Drainage of the department and the total length of the Pemikhong drain is 3.80 km, of which the length of the pucca drain to be constructed is 2 km.
Pucca drain construction from downstream of Porompat DC road is already completed.
The project also consists of 5 RCC slab culverts, of which two have been completed at present while channelization and earthwork for strengthening the banks in some areas are yet to be taken up.
It may be mentioned that MLA Joykisan had raised a question in the just-concluded session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly about the delay in the completion of this drainage project.
The Minister said that the inspection was conducted immediately after the session as he had assured the House that he will monitor this project till its very completion strictly.
He also expressed satisfaction to find water being drained properly in areas where the pucca portion has been completed already.
He also strictly instructed the contractors concerned to complete the project at the earliest.
The original deadline of completion of this project is March 31 of this year, but he said this might not be possible as work on the project was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Minister however instructed the contractors to complete the project as soon as possible, failure to comply will lead to severe actions including blacklisting of the contractors.
Letpao appealed to the residents and local clubs/bodies of the localities adjoining this project to give co-operation and not to cause any hindrances so that the said project can be completed in time.
