Imphal, December 17 2018:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has strongly condemned the action of the police against the volunteers of Manipur Students' Association Delhi (MSAD) who protested at Manipur Bhawan Sadar Patel Marg, New Delhi, against the arrest of Wangkhem Kishorchandra by the State Government.
A press release issued by the information and publicity secretary of AMSU today alleged that the attempt by the State and Central Governments to subdue free speech and freedom of expression is an inhuman act and added that such antics by the authorities concerned, is a blot on democracy.
AMSU continued that such attempt to oppress the people and subdue their voice in a manner akin to a dictatorial rule, will not last long and demanded the State Government to tender an apology for the incident concerning the MSAD protesters.
AMSU narrated that Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students president Murshad Ali, MSAD president Vewon Thokchom and many volunteers were arrested by police after they tried to stage a protest at Manipur Bhawan, Delhi, in connection with the arrest of Wangkhem Kishorchandra under NSA by the State Government, just a day after he was released by the Court on bail following his earlier arrest for making harsh comments/statements against Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media.
MSAD further conveyed that it will wholly support all future steps taken up by MSAD-in connection with the issue and added that the union will not remain a silent spectator anymore.
