Imphal, February 12 2017:
The opening ceremony of Festival of Ritual Narrative and Performing Arts of Manipur, organised by Theatre Centre of Manipur, was held today at Phurailatpam Mandap, Haobam Marak Ngangom Leikai.
Speaking at the function, JN Manipur Dance Academy Director L Upendro Sharma appreciated the effort to save the rare and slowly dying art forms by organising such festivals.
It is the right time to try and save such art forms from disappearing, he added.
Budha Chingtham (Theatre critic and member, NEZCC and EZCC) also appreciated Theatre Centre Manipur for organising the festival.
"Many art forms have vanished while some are clinging on like a slowly diminishing flame.
Contemporary mass culture is killing other small cultures and as such ritual narrative art forms, traditions and performing art forms are slowly dying", he said.
According to Wareppa Naba, president of Theatre Centre Manipur, the festival has been organised with the aim to save and preserve these slowly dying art forms.
Nongthombam Ranjit, Ksh Manglemba, Laishram Tomba and L Irabot show cased narrative and ritual performances today as a part of the festival.
