Imphal, February 12 2017:
Reacting to reports published in some sections of the media that People's Resurgence and Justice Alliance (PRJA) candidate Irom Sharmila who is known for her epoch-making fast against AFSPA was offered Rs 36 crore to campaign for BJP and contest the ensuing election on their ticket, BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary Th Biswajit has dismissed the same report as a blatant lie aimed at projecting BJP in the wrong light ahead of the State Assembly election.
Speaking to media persons at the Nityaipat Chuthek office of BJP Manipur Pradesh, Biswajit asked Irom Sharmila to come out with a clarification regarding the media report at the earliest.
In case Irom Sharmila fails to come out with a clarification, BJP would be compelled to take the matter to Court.
When Sharmila was fasting against AFSPA, the then Union Minister of State for Water Resources Bijoya Chakravarty tried to talk with her twice between 1998 and 2004 .
Sharmila's decision to fight the election is commendable but any attempt to malign the image of BJP is unethical, Biswajit decried.
The Centre's BJP Government has been working for economic upliftment of the country's poor but the party has no money to offer to Sharmila, Biswajit said.
He also expressed strong suspicion that the Congress party was also involved in the slanderous propaganda campaign aimed at projecting BJP in the wrong light.
