Imphal, April 04 2021:
The Special Handloom Expo 2020-21 organised by the Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans CS Limited (A WAS) since March 22 came to a close today at the Manipur Public Library Complex near GM Hall.
National Awardee, Wahengbam Saya was the chief guest of the closing function of the expo whereas Deputy Director of Weavers' Service Centre (WSC) Imphal, HK Baro and vice president of AWAS, A
Ronika were the guest of honour and functional president respectively.
In her speech, W Saya said that weaving has been the most dependable source of income for the majority of women folk in the State.
If given priority and engaged with full attention, a weaver can earn sustenance from the profession, she said while urging all to work hard and be productive.
While highlighting the importance of weaving, she appealed to all weavers not to take the profession lightly.
Saying that it is high time for all to make weaving a full time job, Saya also expressed concern over the lack of quality control at the time of weaving which makes the final products sub-standard and undurable.
Asserting that weaving is not a gender specific profession and men can also undertake it as they can be more efficient, Saya called upon all interested in weaving to join hands and contribute in the development of the State's handloom.
