Imphal, June 29 2015 :
Villagers who had fled their homesteads for fear of reprisal in the aftermath of the Paraolon ambush have returned to their respective villages, Home Minister Gaikhangam informed the House in response to a query raised by MLA Samuel Risom during question at the State Assembly today.
Following the June 4 ambush, some villagers of Paraolon, Moltuk, Challong, Duthang and Kotal Khunthak fled their homesteads fearing reprisal during army operations.
They have all come back and normalcy has been restored.
Officials of the district administration went to the area and ensured free movement of villagers apart from providing some essential commodities.
There was a strong suspicion that the attack was carried out by a combined team of NSCN-K, KYKL and KCP, added Gaikhangam in response to another query of the MLA.
One NSCN-K cadre and another cadre of KYKL were also killed in the attack.
Replying to a question raised by Dr Ng Bijoy, Chief Minister O Ibobi maintained that the demand for inclusion of Meitei in ST list demands serious study.
Any particular community demanding inclusion in the list of STs must first fulfil certain criteria.
To another query, Ibobi admitted that the State Government has no policy to check re-naming of different localities with new ones.
