IBSD to feature at Sangai Festival

Institute of Bio-resources Sustainable Development (IBSD), Takyelpat is set to showcase its contributions towards preservation and protection of bio-resources of the State at Manipur Sangai Festival.
This was informed by the new Director of the institute, Dina Bandhu Sahu, at a press conference held in his office chamber yesterday.
He said that the institute has been educating a number of students on sustainable use of resources found on the earth and bringing economic development through these resources.
IBSD, Takyelpat, which was set up in 2001 under the aegis of Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, has been conducting research on the protection of rare flora and fauna found in Manipur and other North East States, which is categorised as a bio-diversity hotspot, the Director added.
Dina Bandhu Sahu, who took the charge of Director of the institute on October 14, 2014, said that the institute would showcase not only its inventions and discoveries but also its contributions towards protection of bio-resources at Manipur Sangai Festival.
He added that the institute would put in effort to generate employment through development of agriculture and allied industrial activities in the State.
He added that the institute has an ambitious plan to enhance the economy of the State through marketing of the bio-resources as value added items through a supply management system.
He said that orchids, fishes and phumdis which are abundantly found in the State would be given special emphasis.
The Director said that the institute is planning to introduce bio-tourism as well.
