Rotary Club conducts screening

After having successfully conducted heart surgery to 40 children who have congenital heart disease under its Heart to Heart Project, Rotary Club of Imphal conducted another round of screening for the second phase at Koirengei today.
Screening for the third phase for the same project will be held on April 10 at 11 am.
Thirteen children with congenital heart disease (CHD) were detected in today's screening.
Medical reports for these children will be sent to Escorts Heart Institute Hospital, Delhi to check whether open heart surgery can be conducted on them.
Screening for Heart to Heart Project was conducted for the first time on October 5, 2008 and detected 114 children with CHD.
Out of these, open heart surgery has been conducted on 40 children with weak financial background under the project so far.
The actual cost for conducting open heart surgery for congenital heart disease (CHD) patients is Rs 2-3 lakhs and Rotary Club of Imphal has been bearing the total cost under the Heart to Heart Project.
Speaking at the occasion, Rotary Club of Imphal President Dr M Modhumangol said that the project is running succesfully with the support from rotarians.
No fund from external agencies supplement in the project, he added.
The President further said that apart from congenital heart disease (CHD), the project also provides free treatment to persons having single hole in the heart.
