Helen Keller's 139th birth anniversary observed

The Disabled and Destitute Children Welfare Association, Handicapped Development Foundation Manipur, Andro Western Baruni Road Youth Club, Parents And Guardian Council of Persons with Disabilities and SAKSHAM Manipur PRANT jointly observed Helen Keller's 139th birth anniversary at Andro Kharam Leikai Community Hall, Imphal East.
Helen Adams Keller (June 27, 1880 - June 1, 1968) was an American author, political activist, and lecturer.
She was the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Andro Western Baruni Road Youth Club former president Ch Dhanamukta Singh, Handicapped Development Foundation Manipur vice-president Thiyam Ram Singh, Andro Nagar Panchayat Chairperson Y Sajou Singh, People with Disabilities State Commissioner Dr RK Kumarjit Singh and Parent And Guardian Council of People with Disabilities president Th Sharatkumar attended the event as presidium members.

The gathering at the event paid floral tributes to photo of Helen Keller.
Handicapped Development Foundation's Day Care children performed various cultural programmes to mark the observance.
Visually impaired persons were distributed white cane/ Shaarthi device at the event.
Society For Disabled Person Manipur and District Social Welfare Officer Bishnupur also observed Helen Keller Day at Lai Achouba Mandop, Kumbi, Bishnupur district Thursday.
Disabled kits and devices were also distributed at the event.
Kumbi AC MLA S Bira Singh, Extension Officer Bishnupur District Social Welfare Department A Tamphasana Chanu, president Society For Disabled Person Manipur Kh Shyamkeshwor Singh, general secy Rural Social Welfare Society Kh Nandakumar Singh and Emerald Director Asclepius Wellness Pvt Ltd Rural Champion North East Team Jiten Moirangthem attended the event as dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, MLA S Bira informed people about various projects and schemes available to differently abled persons.
Advocating equality among all, he advised people to have compassion for differently abled persons and treat them with respect and dignity.
Differently abled persons should also come out and take part in various activities and skill development programmes for their own growth and development, he said.
