Sensitisation meeting held

State Health Society, NHM (Iodine Deficiency Disorder Cell) held a one-day State level sensitisation meeting of NIDDCP Manipur today at MACS Conference Hall, R & Q Wing, Lamphelpat.
Speaking on the occasion, GOI regional director Dr L Ashananda Singh said State records a high rate of iodine deficiency disorders in children and adults every year.
Iodine deficiency in human, he added, can cause goitre, mental retardation, abortion and still birth in women, physical deformity etc.
These disorders, however, are preventable through regular consumption of iodised salt.The sensitisation meeting was attended by CMOs from 9 district of the State.
Additional Director, Planning & Finance Dr S Manikanta and Addl Director, Public Health, Dr K Komolini were the presidium members of the meeting held here today.
Dr AK Brojen Singh, Professor, Department of Community Medicine, RIMS, Dr K T Singh, managing director, MMCH and Dr A Ibomcha Sharma, regional news unit head also attended as resource persons.
School children with IDD, the resource persons opined, are more likely to have lower intelligence and more learning disabilities than normal children.
