Workshop on Fresh Water Fish Taxonomy kick starts

A five-day National workshop on Fresh Water Fish Taxonomy was opened today at the Manipur University Court Room with Manipur University Vice Chancellor H Nandakumar Sharma as chief guest.
The workshop is being jointly organised by Manipur University and the National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resource, Lucknow.
Head, Department of Life Science, MU Prof GKN Chettry, National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resource, Lucknow Director GK Jena and Dean, School of Life Science Prof N Irabanta attended the opening function as president and guests of honour.
Organising secretary of the workshop Prof W Bishwanath was also seated on the dais.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Prof H Nandakumar said that the workshop would be highly beneficial to Life Science students and research scholars of Manipur University.
Manipur University has been already recognized by other universities for its plant taxonomy.
Together with the already existing plant taxonomy, the ongoing workshop on fish taxonomy would contribute significantly in making Manipur University a respected centre for taxonomy, Prof Nandakumar asserted.
Later a handbook titled "Fresh water fish taxonomy and a manual for identification of fishes of North East India" was released.
