Educational support for children of registered labourers

Offspring's of the Labourers of the state who are registered to the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board are to be given educational support by the labour department.
Official source from the labour department reveals that for the current year Rs.1 lakh has been sanctioned which will benefit 180 children.
The sanctioned amount will be distributed to the beneficiaries shortly.
The scheme will be implemented by the Welfare Board and its office has been opened at Lamphel.
The childrens of those labourers who are registered under the said Board will be given certain amounts depending on their educational level.
Rupees 2000 for school level, Rs.3000 for college level, Rs.4000 for post graduates and Rs.10000 for professional course students will be given by the Labour department.
All laboureres who have work under construction sites for not less then 90 days are applicable to be registered under the Board.
They have to be certified by the construction company or the contractor.
Their registration will be done after a thorough verification by the Lobour department.
After registration the laborer has to pay a monthly fee of Rs.2 to the Board, the source said.
To get the benefit of this scheme the registered labourers has to send an application to the Welfare Board.
Only 2 children of a labour can avail the benefit.
There are around 1000 registered labourers at present.
